What can one say about Madonna that haven't been said already, or heard, or viewed? Nearly nothing. The Rebel Girl who came out of nowhere in the beginning of the 1980's and took the world by storm – and not only the music scene – hasn't stopped in a record-breaking 40 plus years of an amazing career. And the beat just goes on and on.
It is said that there was no Madonna if not the emergence of MTV at the same time. Well, there was no emergence of MTV without Madonna. The network and the Material Girl were made to each other.
The girl from Michigan moved to New York City in late 1970's in order to peruse a dancing career. After some of her earlier singles had some success, especially as dance-music, it didn't take long before her a self-titled debut album, "Madonna", exploded all over in 1983. A star was born. Well, a phenomenon was more like it a superior performer, vocalist, who very rapidly set the tone for a whole young generation of girl and young women in terms of looks, fashion, dancing and behaving. Two singles from the new album became top-ten in the charts – "Borderline" and "Lucky Star". A year later came her second album, "Like a Virgin". If someone thought that Madonna was a one-time wonder, it all came crushing down, as the singer-dance turned in a pop icon, with her provocative videos getting as much recognition as her songs. Up to date, the album has sold over 21 million copied worldwide.
In a career that spans over 40 years, Madonna has broken nearly every glass ceiling, especially those referring to women in the entertainment industry, winning nearly every price and award there are in the music, TV, dance and film industries. Madonna is the most successful female artist of all-time, certainly the most selling female of all time, the only female in a distinguished group that contains The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Elvis, Queen, Elton John and Led Zeppelin for artists who have sold over 300 million albums. She is second only to The Beatles on Billboard's Top 10 Artist of all time. She is fifth on Billboard's list of artists with revenues of over 1 billion dollars, with 11.6 million gross ticket-selling and a gross revenue of 1.3 billion dollars. And her Sticky & Sweet Tour, which played between 2008-2009, sits at number 11 on the 15 highest grossing tours ever, with revenues that totals 411 million dollars. In all, Madonna is at the top, or very close to it, in nearly every possible chart.
Among others, Madonna is the winner of multiple music, dance and video awards around the world, a winner of the Golden Globe Award, including for best actress in "Avita", a winner of the Grammy, as well as, of course MTV Video Music Award, was inducted into the Hollywood walk of Fame as well as the Music Hall of Fame.
And in the end of 2022, Madonna has announced the launching of The Celebration tour, scheduled to kick off in the summer of 2023. The new tour, has 12th world-tour in all, will include her greatest hits from every phase of her remarkable career.
